THE INStitute
The NewVote Institute was born of a simple philosophy: the world is better when we’re all empowered. We use cutting-edge technology to empower the people directly on an issues-basis (direct democracy), uncover the informed ‘will of the people’ (deliberative democracy) — and present these informed perspectives to elected governments (representative democracy). We’re a nudge towards a better world.
THE APP
We’ve teamed up with University of Queensland, Australia, student representative body, UQ Union, to launch an official 12-month pilot ‘UQ Student Voice’. The engagement tool will be for issues on campus with its 52,000 students. NewVote is grateful to have this opportunity and will be doing the best job we can for them. We launched on 24 July 2019.

Connecting people to better democracy
ORGANISATIONS we’re working with / Have worked with:
Cologne, Germany. Democracy International supports democracy advocates across the world and organises knowledge-sharing events (such as the Global Forum on Modern Direct Democracy). Read the Memorandum of Understanding here.
Melbourne, Australia. Designing Open Democracy is a group of tech professionals, political experts and ordinary citizens interested in discussing in a detailed way the potential opportunities for reforming existing democratic institutions
Taipei, Taiwan. Negative Vote Association is a non-for-profit dedicated to the improvement of democracy and world peace, by promoting a fundamental change in election: allowing people to have the option to cast a negative vote (otherwise known as ‘balance voting’).
Brisbane, Australia. The English Family Foundation supports transformational change in our world through the growth and development of social entrepreneurs and social businesses. It has donated $5,000 to NewVote.
Gardens Point, Brisbane, The QUT bluebox have awarded NewVote a position at their accelerator lab and given us a grant of $15,000.
Brisbane, Australia. Australian Access provides users within organisations a simple way to login and access online services from external providers. It is the network behind the verification of almost all universities and research organisations in Australia.
Sydney, Australia. Flux is an issue-based democratic party that trialled the app during the 2019 New South Wales state election.
Woodford, Australia. We hosted a stall at the 2018/19 Woodford Folk Festival and co-facilitated a 6-day listening and workshop series ‘Redesigning Democracy’ (slides here).
Kelvin Grove, Australia. QUT Student Guild is the student organisation of the Queensland University of Technology.
St Lucia, Australia. UQ Union is a student organisation of The University of Queensland. We launched UQ Union on 24 July 2019. See the Memorandum of Understanding here.
Massachusetts, USA. The Climate Foundation is made up of people from all over the world who all have the same goal; to change the world for the better.
